Rapid 3D Prototyping "Fused Deposition Modeling"

JV Precision Machine Co. (JVP) now offers its customers rapid 3D prototyping! Our Fortus 250mc system utilizes Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) a technology that can create a usable 3D prototype in a matter of hours instead of days or weeks. The great advantage of FDM is the durability of the material used and the quality of the 3D modeling produced.

JVP turns your 3D CAD files into three-dimensional prototypes. Your Solid Model CAD file is converted to an SLA format, which is then sliced into layers. Next the sliced SLA file is sent to the FDM machine. The FDM head liquifies an ABS plastic, extruding it in custom defined widths, one layer at a time. Layer after layer is built up until the full design is completed.

If Fused Deposition Modeling is what your project requires, your FDM prototype will be constructed of production materials and can be handled with much greater confidence. We can produce rapid prototypes up to 10" x 10" x 16" in our Fortus 250mc. Parts larger than the build envelope are built in sections and then fused together. Prototypes can be made with ABS, ABSi, with an accuracy within +/- .005 inch. 3D Prototype models of ABS can even be done in different colors: red, green, black, yellow, blue or white.

FDM Technology

FASTER

Rapid prototyping services can drastically reduce development time. As an engineering design services firm, we have the flexibility and skills you need to speed your design from concept to finished part. Whether you're an industrial designer, a model maker, or an inventor, our rapid prototyping service can get your product to market faster.

BETTER

Some designs just can't be machined. Maybe yours has a severe overhang or an enclosed void. No problem for our FDM based rapid prototyping system. It can build just about any geometry you can dream up. Parts will be strong and durable made from extruded ABS plastic with nearly the same strength as an injection-molded part. Parts may also be built from ABSi for high impact strength.

LOWER COST

Our customers regularly report significant cost savings using our prototyping services. Catching one design flaw in a prototype often pays for the prototyping effort many times over. These days most molding companies require customers to present 3D models for design review prior to tool making. They do this because they know rapid prototypes can save thousands in tool revision costs.

Material

ABS is a common end-use thermoplastic material with considerable durability. This material is ideal for a variety of modeling and prototyping activities due to its stiffness and ease of finishing. ABS patterns can be used as sand casting master patterns, plaster casting masters (they are not sensitive to moisture), and master patterns for silicone RTV tooling/urethane castings.

Large Precision Machined Mold

This was a 6' x 6' machined aluminum mold for an aerospace component. Because of the large capacity of our Kia 1000 Horizontal Milling Center we were able to obtain tight tolerances and critical finishes on this piece despite the obstacles that came with its enormous size.
